To Tusk for conservation work in Africa:

Letter from Dan Bucknell, Executive Director of Tusk:

“Many thanks indeed for the generous grant from the 10th DRMC Trust, which we received last week.

We will invest the funds into our anti-poaching efforts in Africa. With as many as 30,000 elephants killed every year for their tusks, and rhinos being once again pushed to the brink of extinction, poaching is still one of the greatest conservation challenges that we are working to overcome. Tusk supports rangers in some of the most important wildlife strongholds across ten countries from Mali to South Africa. We have found that investing in “boots on the ground” and advanced ranger training, combined with community support projects in surrounding areas, remains the most successful approach to stopping the poaching. We continue to witness incredible success in the areas where we are investing in this way, with the stablisation and even increase in elephant and rhino populations at a time when they are in severe decline elsewhere. The support from the 10th Duke of Rutland Memorial Conservation Trust will help Tusk to sustain this level of investment, and where possible extend our reach to other areas where the poaching continues to escalate.”
